On March 6, 2024, the Mechanical Engineering Department at Government Polytechnic, Jamnagar, organized a workshop titled "Futuristic Technology" for pre-final year diploma students. Held at the institute’s venue, the session was led by Prof. Ankur N. Tank from Darshan University, an expert in advanced technologies. The workshop, reported by V. R. Maniar, aimed to familiarize students with emerging technologies reshaping mechanical engineering, preparing them for future industry challenges and opportunities.
Prof. Tank introduced the significance of adapting to a rapidly evolving industrial landscape, covering key areas such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), smart materials, and automation. He explored the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in enhancing efficiency, precision, and decision-making in engineering processes. Emphasis was placed on sustainable technologies, including green engineering practices and renewable energy solutions, highlighting their role in achieving sustainable development goals. Real-world case studies from industries like aerospace, automotive, and robotics illustrated practical applications, inspiring students to think innovatively about future projects. A hands-on activity with prototype models and simulations provided practical exposure, allowing students to engage directly with the discussed concepts. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students explored career paths, industry demands, and the integration of futuristic technologies into current practices. Prof. Tank’s motivational insights encouraged students to embrace innovation and align their skills with industry needs. The event broadened students’ perspectives on cutting-edge technologies, fostering a future-ready mindset. The department expressed gratitude to Prof. Tank and the faculty for their efforts, noting the workshop’s success in equipping students with the knowledge and inspiration to contribute to the evolving mechanical engineering domain.
